About Nienaber Uhren

In our well-equipped workshop we make perfectly handcrafted mechanical watches and clocks in small quantities with unusual time indications quite different from the common taste. From the „simple“ 24-hours-dial to the regulator or retrograde hour-hand, each glance at one of our watches or clocks becomes a joyful event. We make special or individualised executions as well as small series for special events.

Nienaber-Uhren has been in existence at Bünde for more than 30 years

  • 1982 company founded as a mere repair shop
  • 1984 move to new premises at Bahnhofstr. 75. Opening of a retail business for mechanical clocks with annexed repair shop
  • 1987 first contact with second pendulum regulators
  • 1989 the first regulator to be made to customer order
  • 1991 2 more regulators made to be exhibited at the world fair for clocks and jewellery in Basle
  • 1992 collection being extended by two additional models being again presented in Basle
  • since 1993 member of the AHCI (ACADEMIE HORLOGERE de CREATEURS INDEPENDANTS), an association of independent, self-employed and creatively active clockmakers
  • 1995 saw the first small-scale series of wrist watches
  • 1998 Construction of the KING SIZE date, the first big date with only one window in the dial and central unique digits.
  • 2000 Other wristwatch models of the KING SIZE line have been developed. The name "KING SIZE ®" watches was registrated as trademark.
  • 2001 The complications "retrograde hour" and "jumping hour" were presented in Basel.
  • 2003 Start of the production of the KING SIZE regulator, the first wrist watch with authentic dial division.
  • 2004 Extension of the workshop by moving to new premisses located on Bahnhoftrasse 33a.
  • 2006 After the retrograde hour and minute indications, the watch with retrograde seconds hand is completing the "TRIO retrograde".
  • 2007 The RETRO-3, the watch with three retrograde hands, will be finished: hour and minute hands in the centre of the dial and small retrograde seconds indication.
  • In 2008 two models of watches were created as limited editions: the DIGIMAT, limited at 25 pieces, a mechanical digital watch with a PUW (Pforzheimer Uhren Werke) automatic movement as well as the "Automatik Alarm", limited at only 12 pieces, a watch with alarm function based on the legendary automatic movement AS ( Anton Schild ) 5008.
  • A new watch with retrograde time indication was presented at Basel World 2009. This model, called "Retro2", has retrograde hour and minute hands. It is the first retrograde watch of Rainer Nienaber with an automatic movement.
  • In 2009, for the 25th anniversary of his company, Rainer Nienaber made a watch with an anterograde time indication in which the hand does not jump back but jumps over a part of the dial. Three of these watches were sold on a charity auction during the celebration of this anniversary. The model "ANTERO" is the first watch built with this kind of time indication.
  • In 2010 the decimal watch drew the attention of the connoisseurs. The movement of this watch has been changed into a decimal time indication. As required in 1793 during the French Revolution this watch shows per day 10 (decimal) hours of 100 (decimal) minutes. This is the most unusual time indication that Rainer Nienaber has ever realized.
  • After 2 years of development the wristwatch with jumping hour was presented in fall 2012. On the numeral time indication day and night hours are shown differently.
  • At the 30th business anniversary in 2014, a limited edition of the single-hand watch was presented.
